Cloud Sculpture

I first began constructing clouds out of distressed industrial materials in 2005 as part of a collaboration with video and photographic artist, Thom Heileson.  Cutting the cloud shapes reminded me of my earlier clay carving work, and freeing myself from the context of clay was liberating.  I became familiar with the local salvage yards and procured some of my art supplies directly from the “waste stream.”  I was drawn to materials that had a particular look and feel.  I also began experimenting with motorized kinetic works during this period.
